Privacy Policy

Last Updated: September 12, 2026

At The Purse, we take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, protect, and share your information when you use The Purse on iOS or Android. The short version: we collect what the game needs to work, we share it only with the members of your groups, we never sell it, and you can delete all of it from inside the app.

1. Introduction

The Purse ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes our practices regarding the collection and use of information through our mobile application on the Apple App Store and Google Play (the "App") and our website at thepurse.netlify.app.

By downloading, installing, or using The Purse, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with our privacy practices, please do not use the App.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide Directly

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

The App does not use third-party analytics or advertising software, does not use the advertising identifier on either platform, does not collect your location, and does not collect your contacts.

2.3 Information from Third Parties

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

4. Who Can See Your Information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing. Your information is visible as follows:

5. Third-Party Services

5.1 Firebase (Google)

We use Firebase for sign-in, our database, file storage for profile photos, server functions, and (on Android) delivery of push notifications through Firebase Cloud Messaging. Firebase processes data on our behalf under Google's terms. See the Firebase Privacy and Security page.

5.2 Sign in with Apple (iOS)

On iOS we use Apple's sign-in service. The information Apple shares with us is described in Section 2.1 and is subject to the Apple Privacy Policy.

5.3 Google Sign-In (Android)

On Android we use Google's sign-in service. The information Google shares with us is described in Section 2.1 and is subject to the Google Privacy Policy.

5.4 Push Notifications

Notifications are delivered through Apple Push Notification service on iOS and Firebase Cloud Messaging on Android, routed by Expo's push notification service. These services receive your device token and the content of each notification in order to deliver it. See the Expo Privacy Policy.

5.5 External Payments

Important: The Purse does not process, hold, or distribute payments of any kind. Group organizers may optionally display a payment handle so members can arrange entry fee payments directly between themselves outside the App. The Purse has no integration with Venmo or any payment processor and receives no payment data.

6. Data Retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account (Section 8), your profile, sign-in record, profile photo, push token, and your picks for events that have not yet been played are removed immediately.

Results from events you have already played remain part of your groups' historical standings, because they are also the other members' results. Those records show the display name and avatar you used at the time and are no longer connected to a live account.

7. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including:

No security system is impenetrable. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Deleting Your Account

You can delete your account at any time from inside the App: open Settings, scroll to the bottom, and tap Delete Account. You will be asked to confirm with your Apple or Google sign-in. Deletion is immediate and permanent and removes everything described in Section 6.

If you can no longer access the App, email ahunter916@gmail.com from the email address on your account with the subject "Delete my account" and we will delete it within 30 days.

9. Your Privacy Rights

9.1 Access and Portability

You have the right to request a copy of your personal data. Contact us at ahunter916@gmail.com to request your data in a portable format.

9.2 Correction

You can update your display name, avatar, handicap, and payment handle directly in the App under Settings.

9.3 Notifications

You can turn push notifications on or off at any time in the App's Settings, or in your device's notification settings. We do not send marketing emails.

10. California Privacy Rights (CCPA and CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

To exercise these rights, email ahunter916@gmail.com with "California Privacy Request" in the subject line.

12. Children's Privacy

The Purse is intended for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete that information immediately.

13. International Data Transfers

Our servers are operated by Firebase in the United States. If you use the App from outside the United States, your information is transferred to, stored in, and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country. By using The Purse, you consent to this transfer.

14. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. We will post the updated policy at this address and update the date at the top. If a change is material, we will also tell you through the App. Your continued use of the App after such changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.

16. Additional Information

16.1 Our Website

Our website at thepurse.netlify.app hosts group invite links and information about the App. It is a static site that does not set cookies and does not track visitors.

16.2 Social Features

The Purse allows you to join groups and compete with friends. Information you choose to share with a group (name, avatar, picks, results, announcements) is visible to the other members of that group, and information shared in a community pool is visible to everyone in that pool.

16.3 Analytics and Advertising

The App does not use third-party analytics, crash-reporting, or advertising software, and does not use the advertising identifier on iOS or Android. The only usage information we hold is what our own servers record while providing the service.
